Ismael is half Spanish, half Moroccan and grew up on the West coast of North Morocco :
"After opening a hostel with friends in my hometown Assilah, I wanted to create my own place in the countryside to realise my heart project. My vision is to live in a sustainable place for living and creation, together with friends and people from all around the world with the goal to form a community that explores different ways of creation. Ultimately I want a hub to share ideas and provide a cultural exchange in a beautiful and inspiring natural setup close to the wild Atlantic Ocean."
Andreea, a proud Romanian, now calls Morocco her home. She has a passion for traveling and has had the privilege of experiencing the rich culture and beauty of Morocco firsthand.
"I believe that travel is a powerful and transformative experience, even if you have to embark on the journey alone. I created this project to share my love for travel and the lessons I have learned along the way. I hope to inspire you to embrace the spirit of adventure, and to explore the world with open eyes and an open heart."
Toma is Belgian native and has lived in the North Moroccan countryside for 6 years, enjoying the cultural immersion, the sweet weather, the chill life and the good surf. This wasn't enough so he teamed up with Ismael to help him on his project since October 2022.
"As a yoga enthusiast I hope to make this place a safe haven for people fed up with the fast life. The idea behind the place is to have a place where people can come as guests to rest in the wonderful countryside, to practice yoga, learn or share their skills with other. The place will host clients and volunteers in a community vibe."
A Swiss German graphic designer, embarked on the project alongside Ismael in September 2016. Since then, their collaborative efforts have been focused on developing essential infrastructure. This comprehensive work includes the establishment of a dry toilet, a bathroom, the construction of the first cob-straw cabin, an outdoor kitchen, a water reservoir, a fireplace, fences, electricity, a water system, and various planting initiatives. Notably, Nina's graphic designer eye has significantly contributed to the project's aesthetics, bringing her expertise in design, visual choices of materials, and colors, enhancing the overall appeal of the infrastructure.
Meet Jamal, our efficient and adept Moroccan worker. Known for his speed and proficiency, Jamal is well-versed in both ancient and modern techniques. He prefers the fast and efficient methods but is eager to explore innovative ideas, finding inspiration in our unique project requirements. Jamal's versatility extends beyond his individual skills; he often collaborates with other workers, bringing a collaborative spirit to the team as they collectively tackle various tasks on our project list. His ability to blend traditional wisdom with a willingness to embrace new concepts makes Jamal an invaluable asset to our endeavors.
Meet Hamid, our beloved and faithful guardian by night and dedicated gardener by day. Hamid is a reliable and ever-helpful presence, offering his assistance with a warm and welcoming demeanor. His commitment to the well-being of the project is evident as he tends to the gardens and ensures the safety of our space during the night. Beyond his immediate contributions, Hamid brings with him the invaluable knowledge passed down from his ancestors, particularly in the realms of local plants and traditional techniques, enriching our project with a deep connection to the land and its heritage.
Our volunteers, hailing from diverse corners of the world, play an integral role in our community. Drawn by the opportunity to contribute in exchange for accommodation and meals, they bring a wealth of skills, culinary delights, artistic talents, and love to the project. Beyond their invaluable contributions, our time spent with volunteers is marked by camaraderie and shared experiences. Many describe Wild Turtle as a healing place, a testament to the positive and nurturing environment fostered by the collective efforts of our volunteers and the vibrant spirit they bring to the project.
Introducing Luna, our petite and energetic 1-year-old female pet dog, whose journey to Wild Turtle began in 2022 under heartwarming circumstances. Found by our dedicated volunteer Mao during a rainy day, Luna was discovered crying inside a cement bag, seeking refuge from the elements.
From that moment on, Luna embarked on her Wild Turtle journey, growing up next to the comforting warmth of our communal fire. Today, she has blossomed into a vibrant and spirited member of our "Paw Patrol," eagerly patrolling the land with enthusiasm and dedication. Luna's resilience and joyful spirit serve as a reminder of the transformative power of love and compassion, making her an integral part of our community.
Meet Suzy, our beloved 6-year-old female pet dog, whose majestic presence resembles that of a lioness with her striking fur and natural "kohl" makeup around her eyes. Suzy is not just a pet; she's the mother figure of our land, diligently keeping it safe and free from wild animals.
With her loyal and watchful nature, Suzy ensures that our sanctuary remains a peaceful and secure haven for all who reside here. Her gentle yet protective demeanor endears her to everyone she encounters, making her an indispensable part of our community.
Meet Lucy, our skilled and tenacious cat, renowned for her expertise in hunting mice and rats with precision and determination. Lucy has a natural instinct for sneaking into places, exploring every nook and cranny with a stealthy grace that keeps our sanctuary rodent-free.
While Lucy may not always be keen on cuddling, when she does decide to grace your lap with her presence, it's often with a hint of hesitation. Occasionally, her independent spirit may lead to a playful scratch or two, reminding us of her feisty nature.
Despite her occasional reluctance to snuggle, Lucy's warm companionship is a welcome comfort, particularly during the chilly winter months.
In loving memory of Pilon, our eternally beloved male dog, who embodied strength, pride, and unwavering loyalty. Pilon was a formidable guardian, fiercely protecting us from any perceived threats with unmatched courage and determination. Despite his protective instincts, Pilon also possessed a spirited and adventurous nature, often venturing out on escapades in the neighborhood to assert his dominance and masculinity. Unfortunately, these outings sometimes resulted in him returning home injured and in need of care and comfort.
In 2023, we bid farewell to our beloved Pilon as he crossed the rainbow bridge, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of bravery and devotion. Today, he rests peacefully under the soothing shade of lavender plants, surrounded by the tranquility he once safeguarded. Though Pilon may no longer walk beside us, his spirit lives on in our hearts, a constant reminder of the profound bond we shared and the enduring impact he had on our lives. Rest in peace, dear Pilon, your presence is deeply missed but your memory will forever be cherished.
Introducing the infamous peacocks, a relentless horde of self-reproducing invaders who seem to have made our land their personal playground. With little regard for boundaries, they leave their mark everywhere, defiling our sanctuary with their incessant poo and voracious appetite for everything we plant.
In a desperate bid to reclaim our territory, we took action in 2023, capturing as many of these feathered fiends as possible for sale.Yet, despite our efforts, the land remains all too welcoming to these relentless intruders, their numbers seemingly multiplying with each passing day. It's a constant battle against the ever-expanding peacock population, a struggle to maintain our sanctuary amidst their relentless hoarding and destruction. Though the fight may be ongoing, we remain determined to protect our land and restore balance to our ecosystem, even in the face of such formidable adversaries.
The wild turtles, known for their quiet and deliberate pace, embody the essence of our sanctuary. Their unhurried journey mirrors our own approach to creating a sustainable environment.
As the emblem of our place, they symbolize resilience, patience, and harmony with nature. In our ecosystem, they serve as steadfast companions, contributing to the balance and beauty of our surroundings.
Closer or further, these are our friend's project in the neighboorhood
